Professor Maarten Honing studied Clinical Chemistry and Immunochemistry and graduated in 1980. Thereafter, he worked for 10 years as a research technician at Clinical Chemical Laboratory of the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam. He changed into a new scientific direction when he left for a PhD study in Barcelona (Spain). His focus was on the interface of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. In 1995, he obtained his PhD at VU University Amsterdam with Professor Udo Brinkman and continued his project in a two-year post-doc position.
Subsequently, Maarten Honing moved to PharmaBioresearch in Assen to lead the LC-MSMS laboratory. In 1997, he changed for a career at Organon in Oss leading various analytical groups in both the drug development and drug discovery units. After working at Organon for 14 years, Maarten Honing continued his career as competence manager and principle scientist chromatography mass spectrometry at DSM Resolve. In 2011, he was appointed extra-ordinary professor in Drug Discovery Analytics at VU University.
